About the event

As part of the Sunset Nature Advocacy Partnership (SNAP) with Nature in the City and Garden for the Environment, Sutro Stewards will teach you how to grow native plants for habitat restoration. Learn how to propagate California native plants with Sutro Stewards! Plants are the basis for habitat and restoring habitat means planting plants native to your area. This restores the ecosystem and essential natural cycles like the water cycle, the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle, to name just a few. California native plants create habitat for local birds, bees, and butterflies and are drought tolerant once established. Sutro Stewards will teach you various ways to propagate native plants, including seed cleaning and seed sowing. They will also give you tips on native plant species suitable for backyard habitat gardens to promote and encourage butterflies like the green hairstreak, variable checkerspot and pipevine swallowtail! Come join us at the Sutro Native Plant Nursery to learn what you can do to promote biodiversity in your own gardens and hear moer about how the work of Nature in the City, Garden for the Environment and Sutro Stewards are ways to sequester carbon and mitigatye the effects of cliamte change!

We are asking all volunteers to continue to provide their own masks. Please bring your own water and snacks and make sure to wear clothes you can get dirty in. All tools and supplies for the day will be provided. You may bring your own gardening gloves if preferred.

Find our info packet here for more detailed information about what to expect as well as our 2 participation waivers! Participants under 18 will need a parent or guardian signature.
